Mostly Monkeys was founded in 1989 by Suzy and Jim Carey. Previously being involved in the Animal Entertainment Industry they witnessed the uncaring and cruel treatment of monkeys and other animals. Through their sanctuary they strive to create a safe environment for these animals which had no other place to find love and a caring hand. Mostly Monkeys is home to 21 monkeys which include capuchins, macaques, spider and squirrel monkeys. Other residents include a badger, a raccoon, 3 parrots, a sulcatta tortoise, a western pond turtle, 2 red eared sliders and 1 snapping turtle.

SAPHIRE Saphire is a Spider Monkey who was kept as a pet for 36 years, until her owners were moving and she was not going with them. She is housed alone as she is not comfortable with other monkeys, however, she is able to interact with them. She loves human hugs and bananas with fax seeds on them. LENORE Lenore, is a Red Eclectus Parrot. She began to bite when she felt that she was not receiving enough attention. She now loves spending her days flying around in her large aviary. EMMETT Lenore's story is not unique, Emmett, a Green Eclectus Parrot shares the same story. He is now enjoying his life, just being a bird and doing whatever he chooses too.	BABY DOLL Baby Doll is a former pet Pig Tailed Macaque. She was purchased in 1968 at only six weeks old. Her tail was immediately cut off so she could wear diapers. The cage she was kept in was so small that as she grew, she could not move. All she could do was sit on a shelf. Now one of her favorite things to do is make faces. FLORINA Florina, a Black Spider Monkey was found wandering the streets of LA, with a chain and collar around her neck. She had been kept tied to a tree. She had also been used to attract customers to a store in LA. Florina is very sweet and craves human attention. CYRANO Cyrano is an Amazon Parrot that was kept as a pet in a small cage for 30 years. Parrots love to vocalize, however, his owner did not understand this and would yell at him constantly. Now he can vocalize whenever he wants in the large aviary he calls home. On warm days, he likes to take hose baths. He loves sitting out in the sun, just taking in all the sights and sounds around him.
JODI Jodi is a Brown Capuchin that arrived at Mostly Monkeys when the small city zoo where she lived closed. She had spent her entire life confined to a small concrete and wire cage. There was not even a house for her to go into to escape the constant teasing or the elements. Jodi now loves to spend time climbing on ropes and branches. She now has a heated house, and best of all another monkey to play with.	BABY MONKEY BOY Baby Monkey Boy, a Black Spider Monkey was an illegal pet. When his owners were approached by animal control for having an illegal monkey, he was brought to Mostly Monkeys. He had been raised as a human baby. Being put into a cage for the first time was very traumatic for him. The poor monkey became depressed, as he could not imagine why his family had abandoned him. For quite awhile, whenever he saw Suzy he would begin to cry. He has now adapted to his new life and is finally living with and acting like a monkey.
MAVIS Mavis is a badger who came from a Wisconsin Zoo after she did not work out as a trained animal exhibit. CECIL Cecil, a Rhesus Macaque, was the subject of research experiments for 9 years. He is now enjoying the good life at Mostly Monkeys. MIRIAM Miriam was confiscated along with her two brothers. She had been kept outdoors with no shelter. JOEY Joey is one of Miriam's brothers. PEANUT Peanut is a former resident of an Arizona Zoo. BOBBI Bobbi ia a surplus Capuchin from a zoo.	EVE Eve is a Capuchin who was brought illegally into the United States from Costa Rica in the 70's. When her owner died, no one wanted her. Due to being fed an improper diet she has a bone disease that causes her to walk hunched over. TOBY Toby is a raccoon whose mother decided that the perfect place to give birth was the inside of a garage wall. All of his siblings were able to be released into the wild, however, Toby was too comfortable with humans to be released. He was used for educational purposes until he became too grumpy to continue.
